Fears vs Reality
If AI makes you uneasy, you are in good company. Many of the people who build and study AI share some of the same worries. This series doesn't try to talk you out of your concerns. It tries to help you weigh them.
Each piece follows the same pattern:
- The fear, stated fairly. We describe the worry in its strongest form, not as a caricature.
- What the evidence says. We use independent research, above all the International AI Safety Report 2026, written by more than 100 experts and chaired by Yoshua Bengio (executive summary).
- What is genuinely risky. Where a concern is real, we say so.
- Why there is hope, and what is being done. This includes what governments in the Gulf have actually put in place.
- What you can do. Small, practical steps.
The series
| # | Fear | In one line |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Will AI take my job? | Work will change, some roles will shrink and others will grow. So far there is no sign of mass unemployment, but early-career workers deserve attention. |
| 2 | Will we lose control of AI? | Today's systems can't do this, but researchers are studying the warning signs early, which is the right time to do it. |
| 3 | Will AI be used to watch us? | A real risk. Data-protection laws and design choices are the main safeguards, and they need to be enforced. |
| 4 | Is AI biased against people like me? | Often, yes, in measurable ways, including against Arab culture. It can be measured, and it can be improved. |
| 5 | Could AI threaten humanity itself? | Serious experts disagree. Taking the question seriously is how the risk gets smaller. |
A note on tone
We write these pieces to be calm, not because the issues are small, but because fear makes it harder to think clearly. The aim is to leave you better informed, a little more at ease, and more able to take part in the conversation about how AI should be used where you live.
Every expert claim and forecast in this series is logged in the platform's claims register with its source and date, so that you can see later how each one held up.
