The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) has launched a reference and ethical framework for the use of AI in educational institutions in Sharjah, according to an announcement on its website dated 13 October 2026.
The framework is built on principles including privacy and data protection, fairness, transparency, accountability and human oversight. It asks schools to set out how AI may be used in assignments, projects and assessments, with its use disclosed where needed. AI-generated content should not replace a student’s original work or the teacher’s role. The framework also sets rules for using AI in schools’ own media and promotional material, and gives responsibilities to school leaders, teachers, students, IT teams, education specialists and parents.
Aisha Butti Al Ghafli, Director of SPEA’s Curriculum and Assessment Department, spoke of protecting learners’ data, strengthening the teacher’s role and building students’ critical thinking.
Why it matters: a shared framework gives families and teachers in Sharjah a common reference for acceptable use of AI in schoolwork, while taking account of the different curricula and learning environments across the emirate’s schools.
What to watch: the announcement does not give a date from which schools must apply the framework, or say how its use will be checked.
